How Much Do You Know the Diet Precautions for Lupus Nephrit

Diet, as one of the important factors for treating kidney diseases, has many precautions for different patients with different diseases. However, what diet is suitable for patients with Lupus Nephritis?

1. Patients with Lupus Nephritis should not eat or eat less food that enhance the light sensitivity, such as figs, milk vetch, rape, mud snail and celery. If eating these foods, patients should avoid exposing under the sunshine. Fungi such as mushroom, champignon, food dyes and tobacco will induce the systemic lupus erythematosus, so it should be avoid.
2. Patients with Lupus Nephritis should eat high quality protein diet. For the patients with kidney damage, they will lose large amounts of proteins into the urine, and result in hypoproteinemia. So they should supply enough high quality protein, such as milk, soy products, eggs, lean, fish and so on.
3. Patients with lupus nephritis should have a low lipid diet. They often have a little activity and a poor digestive function, so they should eat some light and digestible food, and try to avoid fry food containing much lipid.
4. Patients with Lupus Nephritis should have a low sugar diet. Because of long time glucocorticoid treatment, patients are easy to have steroid diabetes and Cushing syndrome. On this occasion, patients should control the appetite, eat less high sugar food.
6. Patients with Lupus Nephritis should have a low salt diet. Patients using corticoid or with kidney injury are easy to cause water and sodium retention, resulting in swelling. So they should have a low salt diet.
7. Patients with Lupus Nephritis should supply more calcium to prevent Osteoporosis and eat much vegetables and fruit containing rich vitamin.

In the whole, patients with lupus nephritis should have a low lipid, low sugar, low salt and high quality protein diet, which is helpful for patients’ health and recovery.
